Now it’s up to Govt.: GDC’s principal
SOPORE, Nov 30: The Government Degree College Sopore has submitted it’s report with regard to a recent case of sexual harassment and it is now waiting for the final directions from the administrative department.
Speaking with Kashmir Despatch Correspondent Principal GDC Sopore Salma Ahad on Wednesday said that a report has been submitted to the higher-ups after a 15-member committee constituted to probe the allegations of the girl student who accused a college professor of sexually harassing her last week submitted its findings.
The principal said: “We can’t disclose the contents of the report but it is now up to the higher authorities to come up with their decision.”
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar, who also reacted to the alleged sexual harassment case at Sopore College, has said that an investigation and action will follow.
Pertinently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to vice-chancellors and college principals to sensitize their employees about the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013.
“I request you to conduct a special drive to review the pending cases if any and take appropriate action before December 9. “The details of your institution’s program/activities may be provided to the UGC’s gender sensitization division by December 11, 2022,” the UGC secretary wrote in a letter to vice chancellors and principals of universities and colleges.
